There were around ten of them yesterday morning on the market and will be there again on Saturday May 23. They are asking for financial donations, medical equipment and bicycles.

Around ten local activists from the French Communist Party (PCF) were present this Saturday, May 16 in the morning at the weekly market. They distributed leaflets entitled CubaNotEstaSola: “Since January 30 and the establishment of the oil blockade by Trump, Cuba has been asphyxiated: not a drop of oil has been delivered to the island. Countries wanting to send aid are threatened and oil ships wanting to dock in Cuba are diverted and boarded by the United States army in flagrant violation of all international rules It is a real siege which is imposed on the country to punish it for following another mode of development and to push its population into misery and despair and, one hopes, to Washington and to. Miami, to the uprising of Cubans against their government.”

Faced with this situation, the local committees of the France-Cuba association of Midi-Pyrénées, as well as the federations of the French Communist Party, are collecting equipment in good condition and funds throughout the south of France (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Paca) to send containers from Toulouse to Cuba before the summer of 2026. Donations of large medical equipment are requested (beds, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower or bath seats, patient lifts, etc.), but also of small equipment (eyeglasses, orthopedic shoes, splints/orthoses, blood pressure monitors, thermometers…). Consumables are also necessary (dressings, urine bags, urinary catheters, syringes, compresses…).

Among the needs are bicycles in working order as well as spare parts and repair equipment, but also solar energy equipment and financial donations to cover shipping costs. “We have had an excellent welcome from the residents, declare Didier Bezes and Jean-Louis Desprez, members of the local PCF. They are sensitive to the international situation and in particular to Trump’s action which stifles countries which do not agree with him.”

The activists will be present again on the market on Saturday, May 23 in the morning. This same Saturday, May 23, they will also be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to collect donations in a garage located in the Grèves parking lot (contact 06 15 74 56 57).
