Despite a first half where Nantes managed to hold the score, Olympique Lyonnais ultimately crushed the Canaries (8-0) in the semi-final playoff of the First League. The Rhodaniennes, already winners of the cup, have qualified for the championship final, where they will face the winner of the Paris derby taking place this Saturday evening between Paris FC and Paris Saint-Germain.
After a very sluggish first period with numerous approximations in the offensive animation, but which they nevertheless largely dominated (73% possession), the Lyonnaises significantly increased the pace and made the difference in the first quarter hour following the break.
8 goals, all in the second period
Melchie Dumornay, scoring a brace (46th and 60th), led the charge, then Vicky Becho (50th) and Wendie Renard (53rd) quickly gave the reigning French champions a four-goal lead. The Nantaises, finishing 4th in the regular season, continued to suffer the onslaught from Olympique Lyonnais. Lindsay Heaps scored the fifth goal (67) and Ada Hegerberg completed a hat-trick (80th on penalty, 85th, 90th). However, Nantes could have scored on a shot by Mariam Toloba that hit the bar (69th).
So, the Lyonnaises are now awaiting the result of the match between Paris FC and Paris Saint-Germain to know their opponent in the championship final. The final will take place at Groupama Stadium on May 29, a week after their Champions League final.
