Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Iran Showdown: Drone Warfare on the Rise

The conflicts in Ukraine and more recently between Israel and Iran have highlighted a new era in warfare: the era of drones. Used as weapons for years, drones have become highly sought-after projectiles in conflicts due to their low cost, ease of manufacture, and launch capability – but they are very difficult to intercept.

Amid these turbulent times, military defense has become one of the top priorities of the DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement). Surprisingly, it’s not a big company in the Paris region, but an anonymous SME called ALM Meca in the heart of Alsace that has managed to find a relevant solution.

17 Employees, One Drone, and a Remarkable Feat

In under a year, the small company has successfully developed Fury, an interceptor drone with a unique design. Similar to a small aircraft, Fury boasts a jet engine for unmatched speed reaching up to 700 kilometers per hour. It also features incredible acceleration and very high aerodynamic resistance (up to 20 Gs). According to Thierry Berthier of the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr, there are no other products like Fury in Europe.

Self-Funded Development

What’s most impressive about Fury is not just its technical specifications and demo videos, but its economic model. In the military world, private companies usually secure contracts with the DGA or defense ministries to fund new projects. However, Fury was built entirely using ALM Meca’s own funds. The company took a significant risk, and now the challenge lies in industrializing their interceptor drone.

Initial success has been seen with the first turbine order from the defense ministry, closely monitoring the company’s activity. More orders could be on the horizon in the coming months in eastern France.
