German armed forces are not considering entering into contracts with the American company Palantir, specialized in data analysis and defense software, a senior military official told Handelsblatt. “I don’t see this happening at all right now,” said Thomas Daum, head of cyber defense for the German army, as reported in Tuesday’s edition of the newspaper.
“Even if we are interested in the functionalities for our own database, it is simply inconceivable at the moment to grant employees from the private sector access to the national database,” Daum said. Last month, Reuters reported that Palantir’s artificial intelligence system would become an official program of the Pentagon, ensuring long-term use of the company’s weapons targeting technology within the US army.
The German army is interested in artificial intelligence tools that can analyze battlefield data faster than humans.
