The faces of the unpublished scientific study “0 to 100” are now known. This project, led by the University of Saint-Étienne in partnership with the CHU, aims to transform sedentary individuals into participants in a 100-kilometer ultra-trail. And all this in just eighteen months!

The 40 people who will participate in the “0 to 100” project have now been revealed. They were unveiled on Tuesday and will be the subjects of this unprecedented scientific study conducted at Jean-Monnet University in Saint-Etienne (Loire), in partnership with CHU. It consists of 20 men and 20 women, aged 25 to 50, all completely sedentary or inactive. Their goal will be to run a 100km ultra-trail in Savoie in 2027 with over 6000 meters of positive elevation.

To achieve this, they will be accompanied by over a hundred scientists, sports coaches, and academics. The purpose of this study, with a budget of 500,000 euros, is to establish the link between good physical and mental health and sports practice. It is estimated that 40,000 people die each year in France due to sedentarism. Participants will be monitored until the race with tests every five weeks at the regional institute of medicine and sports engineering, based at the CHU of Saint-Étienne but dependent on the university.

The final goal of this scientific experiment will be to finish the CCC, a 100-kilometer race organized as part of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in August 2027. Before that, the forty participants will take part in three weekends of mountain preparation and participate in several training races.
