Josuha Guilavogui has officially retired from professional football at the age of 35. The former French international, with 7 caps to his name, made the announcement. He began his career at Saint-Etienne, where he won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2013, before moving to Spain to claim a La Liga title with Atletico Madrid in 2014. Guilavogui also played for Wolfsburg, Bordeaux, Mainz, and Leeds United.
“Dear Football. You ask for a lot but offer so much more. You gave me the chance to fulfill my father’s dream, which then became mine and captivates the hearts and eyes of millions of children… and then you chose me. Looking back, I realize the unforgettable moments you provided me. I wished I could ask for more from you, but I also know it could have been much less. I take my share of gratitude and leave to others that infinite source of happiness you bring. You will certainly forget me as you have done with others who were greater than me, but I will never forget you. It’s time to write THAT famous sentence. I hang up my boots. The page turns but the book remains open. ‘Let’s not cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.’ Thank you, Football.”
