Winner of Bourg-en-Bresse (102-81) in conclusion of Betclic Elite play-in, Strasbourg secures its ticket to the playoffs with Paris as its opponent in the quarter-finals.
Strasbourg will not miss the Betclic Elite playoffs. After using up their chance on Bourg-en-Bresse’s court, Janis Galitis’ players took advantage of home court to defeat Chalon-sur-Saône in the culmination of the play-in. While Zac Cuthbertson (8 points) struck first in the match, SIG responded under the direction of Marcus Keene (20 points) and Gabe Brown (11 points) to lead by up to five points after just under four minutes on Rhénus’ court. The Alsacians capitalized on this advantage, but the end of the first quarter was a bit more challenging. A last basket by Justyn Mutts (5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) brought Elan Chalon within four units at the end of these ten minutes.
Chalon-sur-Saône resisted
Chalon’s players continued to hang on at the start of the second quarter with a chill passing through the Strasbourg audience when a free throw by Grant Golden (14 points) brought the Saône-et-Loire club within one point. Rising to the occasion, SIG relied on two long-distance shots from Mike Davis Jr (22 points) and another from Marcus Keene to take a ten-point lead. Continuing their efforts, the Alsacians reached halftime with a thirteen-point cushion. Upon returning to the court, Elan Chalon tightened their defense and found solutions on offense. Gradually, Elric Delord’s players closed the gap to just four points with just under three minutes left to play in the third quarter.
Strasbourg finished strong
In free throw play, Strasbourg kept their opponent at bay, but a last three-point shot by Yohan Choupas (8 points) allowed Chalon-sur-Saône to come within six points at the start of the final quarter. Matheo Leray (8 points, 6 assists) and Brandon Paul (6 points) then delivered an 8-0 run for SIG, allowing their team to take a two-point lead. Strasbourg responded immediately with a 10-0 run led by Nelly Joseph (24 points, 9 rebounds). After one final surge of pride, Elan Chalon crumbled with a 14-0 run that sealed the fate of the match. Conceding only two points in the final four minutes, Strasbourg emerged victorious by 21 points (102-81) and completed the Betclic Elite playoffs lineup as the opponent of Paris, the regular season champion, in the quarter-finals.
