“Some [victims] were the suspect’s children,” local police specified during a press conference.
Eight children were shot dead in Shreveport, Louisiana in the United States, and the suspect was then shot by the police, authorities from the southern U.S. state city announced on Sunday, April 19. Called on Sunday to respond to the violence, officers discovered victims in two residences, highlighted Corporal Chris Bordelon at a press conference, adding that a third location is under investigation.
At least ten people were shot during the violence from Saturday night to Sunday, “including eight who are dead, aged 1 to 14,” he said. “Some were the suspect’s children,” Chris Bordelon added. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was pursued by police after forcibly taking a car. He was shot dead by the police during the pursuit. Local police believe he is the sole suspect in this case.
No officers were injured, clarified the Louisiana State Police, who are participating in the investigation. Governor Jeff Landry said his heart was broken and declared he was praying for all those affected. According to local television station KTBS, two adults were injured by gunfire to the head. A young man was injured after jumping from a roof, the station added.
According to data from the Gun Violence Archive NGO, this is the deadliest toll of a gun massacre in the United States since eight people were killed in a suburb of Chicago in January 2024.
