Vietnam is accelerating the modernization of its diplomacy under government leadership.
The Prime Minister stressed that the 14th National Party Congress had prioritized the promotion of foreign affairs and international integration as “regular and essential tasks,” reflecting a significant shift in strategic thinking and the Party’s high regard for diplomacy.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to develop a comprehensive, modern, and professional diplomatic sector during a working session with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 11 in Hanoi. He highlighted the evolving global situation’s direct impact on Vietnam, necessitating greater proactivity, improved strategic foresight, and tailored policy responses.
Acknowledging the Ministry’s efforts in peacekeeping, strengthening partnerships, contributing to foreign policy, mobilizing external resources for development, expanding markets for Vietnamese products, and enhancing the country’s international stature, the Prime Minister also identified areas for improvement.
Future priorities include building a strong Party organization within the Ministry, institutionalizing foreign policy directives from the 14th National Party Congress, and enhancing high-level diplomatic activities for increased efficacy.
The Ministry is tasked with pursuing digital transformation, establishing a digital management system to oversee international commitments, enhancing strategic research, and bolstering commercial development and cooperation abroad.
The Vietnam Diplomatic Academy will focus on training qualified personnel, strengthening strategic research, and collaborating with universities, research institutes, and experts to enhance policy advisory capacities.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister addressed several Ministry proposals, including the urgent completion of a decree to enhance international integration effectiveness and the development of a cultural diplomacy strategy up to 2035, presented by the third quarter of 2026.
