Student brings unexploded shell to school in Italy: panic ensues
An unsuspecting student at a high school in Modena, Emilia-Romagna, caused quite a scare recently when he showed up to history class with a relic from the past. He pulled the object out of his bag and presented it to his teacher, who was terrified and immediately alerted the school principal. The projectile in question turned out to be a very well-preserved mortar shell, likely dating back to World War I, as reported by “Corriere della Sera”. Carabinieri rushed to the scene and instructed students to remain in their classrooms. The shell was then taken to the school courtyard and the area was cordoned off. Bomb-disposal experts were called in but ultimately deemed their intervention unnecessary. As a precautionary measure, the school was evacuated and classes were suspended.
The authorities confiscated the shell for investigation purposes. The student responsible for bringing the projectile could face disciplinary action. Luigi Vaccari, the school’s director, stated, “We are certain this was not a joke, but an act of naivety, however it will result in disciplinary sanctions. The student’s actions led to the evacuation of the school and the suspension of classes.”
