The 16 players from the sports-studies section of the College de l’Aulne in Chateauneuf-du-Faou, along with their supervisors Gabin Le Corre and PE teacher Isabelle Kervella (Pascal Razer unable to join the group for personal reasons), spent four days last week in Rodez as part of the France UNSS competition.

After arriving in the South on Monday, May 4, the competition started the next day and proved to be challenging, resulting in two defeats against a section from the Reims academy twinned with Troyes’ Estac (the future winner) and one from the Toulouse Academy. Frustration was high. “We played two good matches: a loss on penalties in the first game, after a 1-1 score, before losing 5-2 to Troyes, where we were generous with our opponents,” said Gabin Le Corre.

The players from Finistère then showed their skills in two ranking matches, winning 1-0 against Neuilly-sur-Marne and 2-0 against the Ruthenois section. “We finished 9th (out of 12), a very decent ranking for a successful performance with a group of seven first years (along with young coach Peran Manchec and young referee Milo Guyomarc’h). A win in our first match and we could have aimed higher,” said Isabelle Kervella, highlighting “a consistently positive and relevant coaching emphasized by our opponents.”

For the players, the experience will remain with them: “we touched the high level and we will keep that within us.” The sentiment is echoed by Gabin Le Corre: “We had a lot of exchanges with other sections. There are still sports or academic opportunities ahead, but we won’t forget anything!” The goal is clear for next season: “Let’s taste it again! It was a first and I didn’t realize the importance of the event.”
