Teddy Riner, nearly absent from the tatami since his third Olympic title in Paris, will return to competition at the Lausanne Grand Slam at the end of August. The organizers of the Swiss tournament announced this on Tuesday, April 28. “The multiple Olympic champion and absolute reference in his discipline will participate in this stage of the calendar,” the organizers said in a statement.
“This highly anticipated visit is part of his preparation for the upcoming World Championships,” it was added. Since his two gold medals in Paris in the summer of 2024 (individual and team), the 37-year-old Frenchman had not yet resumed individual competition. He had only fought in one match during the Champions League won at the end of 2024 with his PSG club.
“Returning to competition is always a special moment. Lausanne is an important stage for me to get back into the rhythm and regain sensations,” explained Teddy Riner, quoted in the tournament’s statement. The Lausanne Grand Slam, in its first edition, will take place from August 28 to 30, while the World Championships are scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan in October.
