With Rollin’ and Clap, Erik Truffaz returns to the stage for the first time with pieces that are not from his own repertoire, but rather a tribute to film composers! Following a request from the Angoulême Film Festival, the French trumpet star decides to revisit major cinema themes by delving into his memories as a cinephile, lover, and child, to concoct this jazz homage to the silver screen that he illuminates. For Rollin’ and Clap, Truffaz and his long-time accomplice, Marcello Giuliani, first put together an ideal cast on paper. Here, in addition to Giuliani’s bass, which relies on the acoustic sound, the group is enhanced by Raphaël Chassin’s former drums, Alexis Anérilles’ subtle keyboards, and Matthis Pascaud’s Monkish guitar. This catalogue of music filled with moving and recognizable melodies belongs less to the cinema section than to the feast of composers: Nino Rota, Michel Magne, Ennio Morricone, Alain Romans under Jacques Tati, Philippe Sarde. All the film-loving storytellers, the geniuses of the superego whose scores have shaped our imaginations. These are no longer scores submitted to images but miniature films that border on history, incredible adventures to discover as the opening act of the Poirel Hall festival!
