Good news for the adaptation of the cult video game, led by Wes Ball, director of The Maze Runner and Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom.
The kingdom of Hyrule is getting closer.
The highly anticipated live-action film “The Legend of Zelda” has just reached a new milestone. Backed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the project is now in post-production.
During CinemaCon, Sony confirmed that filming had wrapped up (via IGN). No images or footage were revealed this weekend at the event, but the news is positive: production is progressing as planned.
In the cast, we will see Bo Bragason as Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will portray Link. The announcement was made directly by Shigeru Miyamoto, a key figure at Nintendo, who said he is “very excited” to see these iconic characters come to life on the big screen.
Behind the camera, the project relies on a strong team: Wes Ball directs, with a screenplay by Derek Connolly. Miyamoto is producing alongside Avi Arad, a former Marvel Studios executive. A project announced in 2023, co-financed by Nintendo and Sony, and now moving forward rapidly.
The stakes are high. Since its debut in 1986, “The Legend of Zelda” has become one of the most iconic video game franchises. With the recent success of “Mario” films, Nintendo aims to continue riding the wave in cinemas.
The film “Zelda” is expected to hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
