Donald Trump has invited Xi Jinping to the White House in September. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also stated that the American president will “speak more in the coming days” on Taiwan.

Xi Jinping and Donald Trump discussed on Thursday during their summit in Beijing the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Korean Peninsula. The American president described his discussions with his counterpart Xi Jinping as “extremely positive and productive.”

“We had, earlier in the day, extremely positive and productive conversations and meetings with the Chinese delegation,” he said at a banquet held in his honor at the Great Hall of the People.

During the same banquet, Donald Trump invited Xi Jinping to the White House. “I am honored to invite you and Madame Peng to visit us at the White House on September 24,” he announced, addressing Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.

Regarding Taiwan, Donald Trump will speak more “in the coming days,” said American Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to CNBC. “It wouldn’t be a U.S.-China summit if the Taiwan issue wasn’t addressed,” said the minister, who is accompanying the American president in China.

“President Trump understands the stakes and grasps the sensitivities of the subject, anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand Donald Trump’s negotiation style,” added Scott Bessent.

China considers Taiwan as one of its provinces that it aims to “reunify” with the rest of its territory. It advocates for a peaceful takeover but does not rule out the use of force.

“The Taiwan question is the most important in Sino-American relations,” Xi Jinping told Donald Trump on Thursday, adding that “if handled properly, the relations between the two countries (China and the United States) can remain generally stable. If it is mishandled, the two countries will clash, even conflict.”
