Isabelle Huppert knows the Cannes Film Festival like the back of her hand. She has appeared in 30 films in the official selection, including 22 in competition. She has won two awards for best actress, and served as the jury president in 2009. The versatile actress, comfortable in both art house cinema and comedies, returns to the Croisette in “Histoires Parallèles,” the latest film by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, competing for the Palme d’Or.
Thirteen years after “The Past,” the director creates a new film in France. Isabelle Huppert plays Sylvie, a writer who observes her neighbors through a telescope from her apartment. She welcomes Adam (Adam Bessa) into her home, a man who helps her prepare for her move. Through a curious chain of events, and without her realizing, she unwittingly passes on to him both her passion for writing and her taste for voyeurism.
Why did you decide to work with Asghar Farhadi? He is a great director whose films I have enjoyed a lot. The script was interesting, not really easy to grasp at first. There are two parts in the film and on paper it wasn’t obvious…
