Europe is where generative AI is most used, with up to 45% of the population in Ireland, 44% in France, or 42% in Spain in the second half of 2025. However, according to a survey published on May 10th, only 20.3% of Europeans declare having “confidence” in ChatGPT, the OpenAI chatbot.

It’s significantly lower than in the “South” countries.

– This figure averages 61.8% in Africa, 51.1% in South America, and 50% in Asia. – In Nigeria and India, with a combined population of 1.7 billion, over two-thirds of the population (80.4% and 72.5% respectively) trust generative AI.

After peaking in October 2025, three years after the first version of ChatGPT was released, trust in generative AI is decreasing in Anglo-Saxon countries (United States, Canada, and Australia) and in Europe. Conversely, there’s an opposite trend in Asia and South America, where adoption rates are lower.

– Positive perceptions of ChatGPT and chatbots are correlated with concerns about the replacement of human work by AI. – The United States, where thousands of jobs have already been eliminated by companies, is one of the countries where young people (aged 18 to 29), who are most exposed, have the least confidence in ChatGPT.

Americans are among the most pessimistic regarding artificial intelligence and have only relative confidence in information provided by chatbots.

– According to Stanford University’s latest AI report, 84% of those surveyed in China express enthusiasm for AI products and services, compared to only 38% in the United States. – Less than a third (31%) of Americans trust their government to regulate AI responsibly. – In Asia, this figure averages three-quarters of the population.
