Donald Trump rejects Iran’s response

  • Donald Trump rejected Iran’s response to American proposals to end the war on Sunday, May 5.
  • Discussions are stuck on enriched uranium owned by Tehran.
  • Washington, with Israeli support, might consider retrieving it directly from Iranian soil.

I don’t like it – THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!“. Donald Trump dismissed Tehran’s response to its proposals to end the war, raising concerns of a conflict stalemate. Central to negotiations: the nuclear issue.

This file, a true sticking point in relations between the two countries for decades, has overshadowed other points of contention. Among them: Lebanon or the Strait of Hormuz. Iran reportedly suggests, according to the Wall Street Journal, a gradual reopening and simultaneous lifting of the blockade by American ships. As for nuclear matters, Tehran would prefer to “dilute” some of its enriched uranium and send the rest to a “third country.” A new development: until now, authorities wanted to postpone the nuclear issue. Despite this progress, Washington is not satisfied.

We will eventually recover it

Donald Trump

Iran has been leading the United States and the rest of the world astray for 47 years,” reiterated the American president, adding that the Iranians “make fun of our country, which has now regained its greatness!” Washington and many countries suspect Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons through uranium enrichment, which it denies, arguing for its right to civilian nuclear power.

According to inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran had 441 kilos of enriched uranium at 60% in June 2025, close to the 90% threshold needed to make a nuclear bomb. The regime also had 180 kilos enriched at 20% and over 6 tons at 5%. After last year’s strikes and those of recent weeks, the fate of this stockpile is a mystery. Is it buried as Tehran claims? Has some of it been relocated or destroyed? The Israeli government has an idea.

Gulf War: how could the United States recover Iran’s enriched uranium?

The war “accomplished a lot of things, but it’s not over because there’s still nuclear material – enriched uranium – that needs to be removed from Iran,” warned Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. Asked by CBS about how he planned to “get out” the uranium from Iran, he assures: “We go there and we take it out.” The leader also specified having American support for such an operation. “What President Trump told me is: ‘I want to go.’ And I think it’s physically possible. That’s not the issue. If we have an agreement, go there and take it out, why not? It’s the best solution.

We will eventually recover it (…) we are monitoring it closely,” the American president himself declared in a separate interview on CBS. “If someone approaches the site, we’ll know it, and we’ll blow it up,” he added to independent journalist Sharyl Attkisson. Energy Minister Chris Wright was less belligerent: “If it’s the International Atomic Energy Agency that retrieves the uranium, that’s fine with us as well.
