During a meeting with the press, Donald Trump stated that Prince Harry “does not speak on behalf of the United Kingdom” after his comments on the war in Ukraine. On Thursday, April 23, the former member of the British royal family called on the United States to “show leadership.”

Donald Trump did not appreciate Prince Harry’s comments on the role of the United States in the war in Ukraine. On Thursday, April 23, during an interview with the press, he responded to the remarks made by the prince during his visit to Ukraine. “I think I speak more on behalf of the United Kingdom than Prince Harry,” the American president firmly stated.

Prince Harry, who no longer holds an official royal position since moving to the United States, is currently on a surprise trip to Ukraine, where he claims to be going “not as a politician,” but as a “soldier” and “in a humanitarian capacity.” The son of King Charles III stated, “the United States has a special role in this story. Not only because of its power, but because, when Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, America helped ensure respect for the sovereignty and borders of this country.”

“And to add: ‘it is time for the United States to show leadership, to demonstrate that they know how to respect their international commitments – not out of charity, but because of the enduring role they play in world security and stability.'”

“I appreciate his advice”

These comments were dismissed by the American head of state: “Prince Harry does not speak on behalf of the United Kingdom, that’s for sure. I think I speak more on behalf of the United Kingdom than Prince Harry.” And he added, “But I appreciate his advice.”

Before answering the journalist’s question, the President of the United States asked, “How is he doing? How is his wife? Please pass on my regards.”

Donald Trump did not directly respond when asked if the prince would be invited to dinner with King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their official visit next week to the United States. Speaking about the king, the president declared, “He is a friend of mine. We are looking forward to it. We have talked, and we will have a great time.”

He added that the guests will be “great people” who “love the United Kingdom,” also asserting that he loves the United Kingdom as well. Before listing some recent “major mistakes” made by British authorities, such as “immigration” or “energy,” he said, “you should open up the North Sea to Aberdeen.” And then moved on to another topic.
