On the upcoming 23rd of May, the three museums in Draguignan will take part in the European Night of Museums with free entry and activities.
The city of Draguignan is gearing up for an exceptional cultural evening on Saturday, May 23, 2026. On the occasion of the European Night of Museums, its three institutions bearing the prestigious “Musée de France” label are coming together to offer the public a unique and completely free nocturnal experience. This annual event, eagerly anticipated by art and history enthusiasts as well as the curious, invites visitors to rediscover the heritage treasures in a new light, or rather, a new night.
As night falls, the doors of these three cultural institutions will open to welcome all visitors. The initiative aims to make culture accessible to as many people as possible and attract new audiences by offering a friendly and playful approach to museum visits.
A rich program for all audiences
For this edition, the City of Draguignan has orchestrated a diverse program that promises to satisfy all sensibilities. Visitors can stroll through the exhibition halls and take part in various activities specially designed for the occasion. The program includes guided tours, which will deepen the knowledge of permanent collections or temporary exhibitions thanks to the insights of mediators or curators.
Conferences will also be organized, providing moments of exchange and knowledge on specific themes. Music will also play a role with concerts that will enliven the evening and create a unique atmosphere within the museums. Finally, creative workshops and readings will complete this eclectic offering, inviting both young and old to actively participate and immerse themselves in the universe of the museums in Draguignan.
A European-scale event
Created in 2005 by the French Ministry of Culture, the European Night of Museums has quickly become a key event on the continental cultural calendar. Every year, thousands of museums in around thirty European countries participate in this event, offering an exceptional and free evening opening. The event, under the triple patronage of the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and ICOM (International Council of Museums), aims to democratize access to culture and highlight the richness and diversity of European museum heritage.
Highlighting the excellence of the museums in Draguignan
The active participation of the three museums in Draguignan underlines their dynamism and the quality of their collections, recognized by the “Musée de France” designation. This label, awarded by the state, ensures the respect for strict criteria in terms of conservation, study, enrichment of collections, and implementation of educational and outreach actions aimed at ensuring equal access to culture for all. This special night will therefore be a privileged opportunity for the public to discover or rediscover these exceptional places that actively contribute to the cultural radiance of the city and its region.
