President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners to focus on attracting foreign investment, strengthening strategic partnerships, and enhancing the country’s global image. The guidance was provided on Monday during the commencement of an induction course for the envoys at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, as per a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, expressed confidence in the envoys’ capability to advance Nigeria’s interests globally through their appointments. He highlighted the increasing importance of diplomacy in today’s world, characterized by geopolitical changes, economic uncertainties, technological disruptions, climate issues, and security challenges.

Tinubu encouraged the envoys to embrace a results-oriented and modern diplomatic approach, integrating traditional methods with digital engagement, public diplomacy, and strategic communication while highlighting the achievements of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also stressed the importance of proactively building partnerships, boosting trade, attracting foreign direct investment and technology, and ensuring the well-being of Nigerians abroad.

In a notable policy adjustment, the President introduced a restructuring of Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, referred to as the 4D Doctrine. This revision places the Nigerian people at the core of the foreign policy agenda, with a focus on maximizing benefits for them. The doctrine’s order has been altered from Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora to Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy.

Tinubu underscored the significance of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism in carrying out diplomatic responsibilities, urging the envoys to maintain accountability and drive for results. He highlighted the envoys’ specific role in elevating Nigeria’s position in global affairs, recognizing that the world is observing.

The President also lauded the National Assembly for promptly confirming the envoys and encouraged them to make full use of the induction program aimed at preparing them for effective service.
