High expectations – It is the first time since the controversial war began that Pete Hegseth, the Defense Minister, will address the members of parliament
Pete Hegseth, the American Defense Minister, is expected with great anticipation to explain this Wednesday the conduct of the war in Iran. This will be his first parliamentary hearing since the beginning of a conflict that continues despite a ceasefire extended by Donald Trump.
The Pentagon chief, heavily criticized by the Democratic opposition, will face questions from members of the House Armed Services Committee at the side of Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Since the start of the war on February 28th, lawmakers from both sides have criticized the American executive branch for the lack of information provided to them, while it is customary for some of them to be regularly informed with classified defense intelligence.
Impeachment procedures
Pete Hegseth, a particularly divisive figure in Donald Trump’s government, may face tough questions from the Democratic opposition, as the economic consequences of the war are felt worldwide and even in the American public opinion with a rise in gas prices.
