Water-polo – Finals of the French Championship at Marx Dormoy
On May 16 and 17, the Marx Dormoy Olympic Pool hosts the Elite Women’s and U16 Women’s French Championship Finals. The LUC Métropole Waterpolo, reigning champion for the 11th consecutive year, had an undefeated season last year before dominating the final against Nancy (27-8). This season, the Lille team remained undefeated in the championship, confirming their status as the best French team. With this new final at home, in front of the Marx Dormoy public, the objective is a twelfth consecutive title.
LOSC – Final Sprint in Ligue 1
On May 10, the Dogues won away at Monaco (0-1), a direct opponent. They are currently in third place in Ligue 1. The Lille team will face Auxerre on May 17 for the final matchday. They are well-positioned to secure a direct European qualification for the Champions League.
Events in the Neighborhoods
Numerous Lille clubs animate the city’s sports facilities throughout the month.
The Antoine Blondin complex, the Pacôme hall, the Marx Dormoy pool, and the Ramond Kopa complex fields will host a series of youth tournaments in football, basketball, artistic swimming, and rollerblading, organized by local clubs throughout the month.
- The ASPTT Karate organizes the Veteran French Championships on May 24 at the Palais des Sports Saint-Sauveur.
- The LUC artistic swimming presents their End-of-Year Gala on May 24 at Marx Dormoy.
- From May 22-24, the Halle de Glisse will host the French Street Skate Championships, a national-level competition.
- The Saint-Maurice-Pellevoisin neighborhood will host its Sports Festival at the Da Rui stadium on May 30: a day of sports discovery for children, organized by the Animation Committee, local clubs, and schools in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
- The US Antillais de Lille, founded in 1976 by Marcel Hyppolyte, celebrates its 50th anniversary on May 23, marking half a century of neighborhood football and social connections between Lille-Sud, Faches, and Ronchin.
- Le Gant d’Argent Lille-Sud will host the Challenge Saïd Mekhouedj, a French boxing session bringing together several regional clubs in a spirit of respect and sharing on May 30 at the Jean Cauet room.
Hockey on Grass: Two Lille Teams in the Semi-finals!
The regular hockey season on grass was thrilling and stressful until the end, but it’s official: there will be two Lille teams in the semi-finals of the Elite French Championship (on May 16 and 17)!
The Lille women won against Racing (0-3) and secured their 4th place qualification, with a 3-point lead over Lambersart. They will meet in Saint-Germain on May 16 and 17 to attempt an upset against the undefeated season leader and aim for a spot in the final.
On the men’s side, they also defeated Racing away (2-4). The victory was crucial because at the same time, Polo de Marcq outperformed Saint-Germain, finishing just one point behind LMHC in the standings. The first leg of the semi-final will be on the 16th, with the return leg on the 17th, in Montrouge.
