At the end of his meetings with the EU’s top representative, Nasser Bourita elaborated on the relationship, emphasizing that it is not just technical or institutional but primarily a political, geopolitical, and strategic choice.
Explaining the basis of this relationship, he noted the current world is challenging, filled with challenges, problems, and obstacles. Each country seeks reliable partners to work with in facing these challenges.
Bourita highlighted that the crucial factor is whether one can rely on their partner, with reliability being the key word allowing partners to overcome challenges since no one can solve problems alone.
He emphasized that Morocco, under King Mohammed VI’s leadership, has all the necessary attributes to be a reliable partner in this complex world.
Bourita mentioned that Morocco and the EU should be seen as equal partners, respecting each other and sharing the same vision on challenges and how to tackle them collaboratively.
Bourita stated that Morocco and the EU are discussing to build a unique partnership based on historical ties, neighborhood, and the current global landscape.
Kaja Kallas, the Vice President of the European Commission and the EU’s top diplomat for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, praised Morocco as a close, reliable, and strategic partner for the EU, highlighting their significant trade and investment relations.
Kallas expressed confidence in strengthening the partnership with Morocco in key areas like trade, investment, and migration to elevate their ties to the next level this year.
She also reaffirmed the EU position on the Western Sahara, suggesting that genuine autonomy could be a feasible solution to definitively resolve the regional dispute.
The EU calls on all parties to engage in discussions without preconditions based on Morocco’s autonomy plan to reach a lasting political solution.
