The Lebanese Army Orientation Department announced that specialized units have proceeded to the complete reopening of the Khardali-Nabatiye road, as well as the partial reopening of the Bourj Rahhal-Tyr bridge in South Lebanon.

In a statement released Sunday morning, the army also specified that work is underway to rehabilitate the Teir Felsay bridge in the Tyr region, in coordination with the Litani River Authority, following damages caused by Israeli strikes.

The army also mentioned continuing clearing and road reopening operations, “while ensuring security missions to preserve internal stability.”

Israeli army strikes on bridges crossing the Litani River, about 30 km north of the Israeli border, had nearly isolated southern Lebanon from the rest of the country.

The reopening of the Qasmiye bridge since Friday morning had allowed a large number of displaced people to return to their towns and villages to inspect their homes.

However, many residents of the South seem hesitant to return, considering the fragility of the ceasefire that has suspended ongoing hostilities since March 2.

On Saturday, an AFP correspondent in Saida observed significant car traffic towards Beirut, with displaced people returning to their temporary accommodations.

Earlier, a Hezbollah official, Mahmoud Qomati, had asked those who had fled the southern suburbs of Beirut or the south of the country to wait for the group’s approval before returning home.

“You can inspect (your homes) but do not leave the places where you sought refuge. (…) Beware of Israeli double-dealing, it is only a temporary truce,” he declared.
