Twenty days after the physical and verbal assault on Kyllian Lelarge, we now know the consequences of attacking a referee. The federal disciplinary committee has announced the sanctions imposed following the incident that took place on Saturday, May 2, in Noumea, at the Numa-Daly stadium.

It happened during the seventh round of the Super League, in the match between Horizon Patho and AS Lössi. In added time of the second half, Patho’s full-back Vincent Wachoima delivered a violent punch to the referee.

For this action, he received a seven-year suspension. “The first four years involve a total ban on any football-related activities,” stated the New Caledonian Football Federation in a statement released on Friday, May 22. “Over the next three years, the player is only allowed to perform refereeing duties, provided he undergoes the training courses set up by the FCF.”

As for the two players who were involved in insulting the same individual, they each received a four-game suspension, with Patho losing five points in the standings, known as a disciplinary fine.

Following an assessment of the officials’ report and evidence submitted to the FCF disciplinary committee, it was established that the accusations constituted a serious violation of disciplinary regulations and fundamental football values.

In a separate incident from the first round of the championship, the disciplinary committee addressed an official who was a victim of verbal abuse and serious threats. The player from CA Saint-Louis who insulted and threatened an assistant referee has been suspended for nine matches, including an automatic one.

It is possible to appeal these decisions within a ten-day period in front of the federal appeals committee.
