UEFA has announced the referee for the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal on May 30th in Budapest: Daniel Siebert. The German, who officiated the second leg of the semi-final won by Arsenal against Atletico Madrid (1-0) last week, will be officiating his first final of this magnitude.
Siebert is a well-known official in the Bundesliga. He has refereed 201 matches in the German Championship since starting his career in 1998. The Berliner made his debut in the first division in 2012 and became a FIFA referee three years later.
For Parisians, he is also a familiar face. The forty-something has officiated four matches for the capital club: a big win against Club Bruges in 2019 (5-0), a victory against Maccabi Haifa in 2022 (3-1), the first match of the victorious campaign last season against Guerone (1-0), and the draw against Athletic Bilbao (0-0), including this season.

In these matches, he averages more than 4 yellow cards, but no red cards or penalties given. As previously mentioned, he recently encountered Arsenal. Siebert also officiated in the victorious first-leg quarter-final match against Sporting (1-0).
With nine Champions League matches – including one red card – under his belt this season, he will have his hands full. UEFA has also announced the rest of the refereeing team. Germans Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn will be the assistant referees, with Swiss Sandro Schärer as the fourth official and Spanish Guadalupe Porras Ayuso as the reserve official. In the VAR room, German Bastian Dankert will be supported by his compatriot Robert Schröder.
