After the heavy defeat against Paris FC (0-4), Brest coach Éric Roy expressed serious concerns about the club’s sports project.
This Sunday, the setback against Paris FC not only left marks on the scoreline. It revealed a deeper fracture within Stade Brestois. Outclassed in all areas of the game, the Brest players delivered a very worrying performance. In this context, Éric Roy did not try to hide his concern.
An uncertain personal future
On the contrary. In a statement to L’Équipe, the coach offered a clear analysis of the club’s direction. “I just look at my team and project ahead. What I see is worrying today, but it’s worrying for the future,” he said, before directly criticizing the sports policy: “If the project is still to sell our best players (…) and keep tinkering, it’s obvious that it will become complicated.” Beyond the field, it is the overall future of the Brest project that appears to be fragile. In this climate, Roy does not rule out any possibility, including a sudden departure. “Do you really want me to tell you that I’m leaving? I have a choice, and today I don’t know. But maybe it’s not me who will decide,” he continued, even mentioning a possible decision from his leadership: “My president may well tell me: ‘We are going to change the project.’ ” In a club where the end of the season seemed insignificant in terms of sports, Éric Roy’s statement now sounds like a potentially serious signal.
