Just a month and a half before the World Cup, Algerian international goalkeeper suffered a concussion with his club Grenade.
Bad news for Luca Zidane. Victim of a concussion during a match in the Spanish second division with Grenade, the French-Algerian goalkeeper has a jaw and chin fracture, his club announced on Monday night, just a month and a half before the 2026 World Cup.
The son of Zinedine Zidane, who has chosen to represent the Algerian national team, suffered a violent collision during an aerial challenge last weekend against Almeria. “In consultation with the club’s medical staff, he will decide in the coming hours on the treatment to follow to heal his injury,” the club statement said.
An operation could force the Fennecs’ goalkeeper (6 caps), who just competed in the Africa Cup of Nations in January, to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (June 11 – July 19).
His absence would seriously complicate the task of his coach Vladimir Petkovic, who is already without the other two usual goalkeepers, Anthony Mandrea (SM Caen) and Melvin Mastil (Stade Nyonnais), both injured.
