After the draw between Olympique de Marseille and Nice, which left Marseille in 6th place in Ligue 1, 4 points away from the podium, captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was furious with this setback for his team.
The Champions League seems out of reach for Marseille. Held to a draw by Nice (1-1) in the final match of the 31st round of Ligue 1, Marseille now sits in 6th place, 4 points away from the third qualifying spot for the Champions League currently held by Lyon.
Following their defeat to Lorient (2-0), Marseille continued their unsuccessful streak in the league, having won only one of their last five matches. This streak is not enough to hope for a Champions League qualification next year and it is frustrating the Marseille squad.
Scoring early in the second half against OGC Nice, captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg thought he had secured a crucial win for his team in front of a supportive crowd at Stade Velodrome. However, a penalty conceded in the final moments and exquisitely converted by former Marseille player Elye Wahi, resulted in Marseille once again missing out on a victory. Hojbjerg expressed his anger towards his team, stating they must stop talking and start winning matches.
Marseille’s coach, Habib Beye, emphasized the need to stay focused and collect points to put pressure on their rivals, as they have three games left to turn things around starting with the match against Nantes next Saturday.
