From April 24 to 26, clubs in Marne experienced an eventful weekend. The Stadistes women’s team beat Metz and are getting closer to securing their place in the Second League. Champagne Basket achieved a second success, while Reims Volley 51 earned historic qualification for the playoffs. In the men’s category, Karel Geraerts’ team lost valuable points against Nancy.
Stade de Reims faced a disappointing result against Nancy in front of 11,390 spectators at Auguste-Delaune on Saturday. Despite being reduced to ten men in the 65th minute, Reims only managed to draw 1-1 against Nancy. The game had started well for them with a goal from Thiemoko Diarra in the 9th minute, but Zakaria Fdaouch’s 85th-minute equalizer led to Reims’ thirteenth draw of the season, effectively ending their playoff hopes.
The Stade de Reims women’s team had a successful outing against FC Metz on April 25, winning 4-1 in the 19th round of the Second League. Despite a shaky first half, the Reims women managed to turn things around before halftime, ultimately securing a significant victory.
Champagne Basket had a double success in Elite 2, first defeating Saint-Chamond after overtime on April 21 and then beating Hyères-Toulon on April 24. With these victories, Champagne Basket climbed to 11th place and remains in contention for the play-in spots.
In a historic achievement, Reims Volley 51 secured a spot in the playoffs by defeating France Avenir 3-2 in Paris on April 24. The men’s team fought hard to come back from being two sets down and clinched the eighth spot in Ligue B.
In amateur football, Stade de Reims B finally secured a victory in Regional 2 Feminine. Other results included Bezannes 2050 losing to Blénod 1-2 at home and Marnaval beating Reims Galaxy 5-1.
Upcoming matches include Saint-Brice Courcelles in handball N1M, Reims Metropole Futsal in D2, and Champagne Basket Feminin’s next season. Stade de Reims B will face Chambéry on May 2.
