Luis Enrique does not want to speculate or project too far ahead. In a press conference on Tuesday, the day before the postponed Ligue 1 match against Nantes (this Wednesday at 7pm), the Paris Saint-Germain coach was asked about Vitinha’s injury. The Portuguese midfielder was injured and had to leave the field during the match against Lyon (1-2) on Sunday and is suffering from inflammation in the plantar arch. His presence in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich is therefore uncertain.
“There are still two very important matches for the championship (against Nantes and Angers this Saturday)”, replied the Spanish coach. While remaining somewhat vague: “We will see, with calm and tranquility, how the injured players can come back. But I don’t know.”
Luis Enrique wants to mobilize all his troops
As detailed by RMC Sport, Vitinha is expected to miss the two league matches while undergoing anti-inflammatory treatment. A week before the C1 showdown, caution is required at PSG as this injury may prove complex to heal, but some sources close to the club remain optimistic.
Luis Enrique will have to manage his squad in this final sprint during which the Parisians will want to secure the title in Ligue 1 and keep their crown in the Champions League. But to what extent should he rotate? Is the goalkeeper position (between Matvei Safonov and Lucas Chevalier) a concern? “We have the clear objective of seeking to win the match, that’s the most important thing. Tomorrow, we will decide what will be the best team for this match,” assured the Parisian coach.
The coach’s goal is to mobilize all his troops. That’s why he praised those who have been satisfied with bits of playing time in the last two seasons: “What I think of substitutes is that we won everything last year thanks to this type of substitutes. They always trained well, played very well when needed. This year, it’s the same thing.”
