Cannes Film Festival: The only wine served to the stars is from a vineyard in Var

At the gala dinner this Tuesday evening for the opening of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, celebrities will be served wine from a Var domain, whose “father” is illustrious.

Whether red, white or rosé, the wine that the stars will taste this Tuesday night for the opening ceremony and throughout the Cannes Festival is from the Var region. The domain, “Château Margüi,” owned by “Skywalker Vineyards” behind which is the screenwriter and director George Lucas, is for the second consecutive year the only official wine partner of this 79th edition.

Jodie Foster, Daniel Auteuil, Scarlett Johansson to name a few from last year. And this year, Léa Seydoux, Cate Blanchett or Javier Bardem. These illustrious names have discovered or will discover one of the three colors of Château Margüi. Beyond the glamour, it is mainly the culmination of a team effort led by Yann Jouet, the director of the estate located in the lush setting of Châteauvert: “Making wine is a lot of work and uncertainty because it is linked to the climate. We are producers, so it really comes from our vines that we nurture all year round. So of course, at the end of the chain, when the whole team sees the wine served on the tables of the festival gala, it is a great pride.”

A quality label

However, it is also an extraordinary global showcase for this domain that enjoys significant renown. “The festival is internationally known so it brings additional credibility to the brand,” says Yann Jouet.

Especially since apart from being served throughout the festival, Château Margüi has had an additional small label on its bottles since last year. It is not very big, but it is enough in itself—huge since it reads “official partner of the Cannes Film Festival.”

“It opens doors. Château Margüi already has its own reputation. We belong to an illustrious owner, but that’s not all. The quality of the wine is the primary argument. The Cannes Film Festival is the icing on the cake because it is recognized internationally. It comes as a label that guarantees a certain quality,” concludes Yann Jouet, who is about to put on a tuxedo before stepping on the famous red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival.
