Since its release in mid-April, “Moi, je peux pas” has been playing on a loop on the internet, creating a true trend on social networks. Junior BSG, the author, composer, and performer of this title, fully embraces this, all while being a professional basketball player in Belgium! Plus Que Sportifs takes a closer look at this phenomenon that is as viral as it is unique.
“We are Christians, so we talk about Jesus – F-Chez-vous as you want, we will not stop!” [Context: Quote from the song].
More than ever, the chorus with its engaging lyrics unfolds like a swirling wind of freshness! In the midst of a music video where joy and contagious good humor reign, the lyrics reflect everything about its creator: “I am in a dynamic of making songs where we can proudly proclaim our love for Jesus without shame,” assures Junior Bonsenge. “Since I started composing, I am not afraid to get involved, and I want to avoid making songs where we talk about Christian faith only superficially,” he adds.
With a double gospel and Afro style combined with modern praise, the 22-year-old man manages to touch us while making us dance. This unique trademark belongs to him, as his music career took off two years ago with the release of his first album, “Une jeunesse pour Jesus” (2024).
Junior’s rhythmic sense is not the only talent he possesses; he also has a deep passion for basketball. This sport is his other strong point, starting from his training club Royal IV Brussels and continuing with Brussels Basketball, a professional club in the BNXT League that currently provides him with the opportunity to perform at the highest level.
“Even though music is my priority, basketball has also been part of my life since I was little. It’s not always easy to juggle both, as they are time-consuming activities, but I try to honor God in everything I experience,” [Context: Quote from Junior about balancing music and basketball].
In the past two years, while not yet firmly established in the main rotation of his team, Junior’s initial appearances in the professional group have allowed him to shine in a different light, such as his performance against BAL on April 16, the day “Moi, je peux pas” was released! That night, he notably scored ten points in twenty minutes, exceptional stats for the young rookie he still is.
In the midst of the regular season’s two remaining games, which will conclude with a prestigious match at the magnificent ING Arena in the Belgian capital on Wednesday, his team is more than ever in contention for the playoffs.
“At the moment, it’s a bit of a race, and there’s not a day where I have nothing to do: training, matches, music… Without forgetting the youth group ‘Une generation choisie,’ which I lead and is represented by the dancers in the video!” [Context: Junior’s busy schedule balancing various activities].
No matter the calendar constraints, the young man accumulates blessings that he reflects even in the lyrics of his songs: “I am a child of God, so I am blessed,” he proclaims in “Mon Jesus eeh,” lines he partially includes in his latest single.
“Since my mother’s womb, it’s Him who chose me,” [Context: Quote from the song].
Junior always conveys this message with humility and simplicity, despite recently crossing the 100,000 followers mark on social media, with content liked and commented on by several high-level athletes from different sports, like football player and OL Lyonnes captain Wendie Renard last week.
“I admit that I did not expect such a reception!” he concludes before adding, “If, through all of this, people could grasp the gift of grace and be touched by it as I was one day…”
Without a ball or mic in hand, his greatest victory would undoubtedly be that! [Fact Check: Junior BSG is a professional basketball player in Belgium and a musician].
