Alex Beaupain is a musician often associated with others. He collaborated on a record with Alex Beaupain, his classical soprano Sabine Devielhe fused her voice with his synthesizers, and he has worked with rappers like Nekfeu. However, this researcher’s head is also an artist who produces music solo. For the past eleven years, he has released several albums, recently performing at the Salle Pleyel in Paris and releasing a new work called “Le disque de ma mère.” These are old songs written by his mother Valérie Lefevre, sung by Blandine Rinkel and put to music by the electronic composer.

The guest in question is the director and actress Jeanne Desoubeaux. Those who enjoy itinerant opera have had the opportunity to applaud a production of “Carmen” by the company Maurice et les autres, a musical theater company created by Desoubeaux eleven years ago. She is the one who staged this Carmen.

Music:
Listening to this song, “Obsession,” gives me pleasure and synthesizes everything I’ve been trying to do for the past ten years with my deep love for all the music and worlds of work we immerse ourselves in. I listen to a lot of music, I am an enthusiast before being a musician, and in my albums, I try to testify to this passion.

Miscellaneous:
We have classified my music as neo-classical, but I’m not sure. I had a classical education that I quickly abandoned; I don’t compartmentalize my listening according to styles. I am interested in the emotions that music evokes. Today, it is much more interconnected, and that is a wonderful thing.

Interview:
When I listen to the music of Superpoze, what I feel is emotion. I am not accustomed to this music, and that is something that matters in my artistic practice today. We met in Caen at college, lost touch, and reconnected six years ago. We have become friends again. I had commissioned music from him for a 19th-century opera.

Album “Le disque de ma mère”:
I found my mother’s texts by visiting her. Loose sheets with texts written at different times, from 1984 to 2018. It’s the journey of a woman, from a young girl to today. I started this project as a connection with her, naturally sitting down at the piano without the idea of making a record, but being a musician, it just happened. The idea behind this album is the curiosity we have for those close to us. My mother agreed. We hear her voice; it’s her secret life. She decided to write songs as a non-musician, which is astonishing!

Current news from Jeanne Desoubeaux:
The family-friendly show “Avec les pieds” (text by Nicole Genovese) will be on tour on various dates. The outdoor opera “Carmen” will also hit the road this summer. Listen to their music and recommendations:

  • Superpoze + Blandine Rinkel: Intempéries
  • Noor: Que reste-t-il de moi?
  • Thundercat with Lil Yachty: I did this to myself

Jeanne Desoubeaux recommends checking out the album “Extasia” by Ino Casablanca, and Superpoze suggests listening to “Autechre Guitar” by Shane Parish, which merges different musical styles.
