On May 12, Sylvie Vartan will meet her audience at the Palais des Congrès for a master class entitled “Here is My Life”. A private moment, designed as a dive into her journey, where she will share with writer Roland Perez, behind the book “My Mother, God, and Sylvie Vartan”, later adapted into a movie by Ken Scott in 2025. For this encounter, the 81-year-old icon opened up in “La Tribune dimanche” on April 26, 2026, reflecting on a significant chapter in her life involving Johnny Hallyday.

Amusing Marriage Proposal from Johnny Hallyday to Sylvie Vartan

Their encounter dates back to the early 1960s, at the Olympia concert, where David Hallyday’s mother remembered Johnny as “shy and very sensitive, not fitting the image we have of him at the end of his life.” Their relationship quickly became evident, but the singer never directly proposed. Sylvie Vartan recalled how she learned about Johnny’s desire to marry her, not from Johnny himself but from his secretary Jean-Pierre Pierre-Bloch. She shared, “Johnny is in love with you, he wants to marry you.” Sylvie Vartan expressed, “I wasn’t very surprised because we loved each other very much. Between us, it was passion, fire!”

Sylvie Vartan Opens Up about the Pain of Miscarriage

After a joint tour in 1962, their engagement was announced on the radio in 1963, followed by a discreet marriage in 1965 in Loconville, Oise. From this union came their son, David Hallyday, before they separated fifteen years later in 1980. Amidst the fond memories Sylvie Vartan recollects, there were also silent but painful challenges. In the same interview with “La Tribune dimanche,” Sylvie Vartan talked about a hidden wound, revealing, “I was pregnant a second time, but I lost the child.” Reflecting on the miscarriage in 1974, she added, “At that time, we didn’t talk about it.”

Years later, the singer expanded her family alongside husband Tony Scotti. She shared, “Then in 1998, with Tony, we adopted Darina from Bulgaria, then 7 months old.” Sylvie Vartan recalled, “David was grown, he had taken flight. Children need to be given roots and wings. It’s the natural order of things. Darina fills us with happiness.” She praised Tony for his essential role in their lives, providing stability, generosity, and true mental strength. These heartfelt confidences may be further explored on May 12 in conversation with her friend Roland Perez.
