“Marie-Chantal contre le docteur Kha”, by Claude Chabrol: Highly entertaining espionage cinema
Very energized, Chabrol leads this spy parody where Serge Reggiani plays a Soviet secret agent, Charles Denner loses his British accent for a Parisian one, and Stéphane Audran portrays lesbian “black widows”.
En form, Chabrol brings the thunder to this espionage satire where Serge Reggiani plays a Soviet secret agent, Charles Denner ditches his British accent for one from Paname, and Stéphane Audran follows in the footsteps of lesbian “black widows”.
Chabrol has fun filling his script with red herrings and doublespeak, playing with the usual tropes of spy cinema (double agents, calculated coincidences, all types of betrayals) to parody them effectively. The result is quite flavorful, thanks especially to the actors: Serge Reggiani adopts a Russian accent, Charles Denner pretends to be an American.
