The extension of the truce between Iran and the United States was supposed to end in theory on Tuesday night to Wednesday, Tehran time. A new round of talks in Islamabad is planned in Pakistan between Iran and the United States.

The ceasefire between the United States and Iran is due to expire “Wednesday evening, Washington time,” President Donald Trump said on Monday, April 20 to Bloomberg, as reported by CNN. If American demands are not met by then, “many bombs will explode,” added the American president, this time to PBS, after earlier threatening to “destroy an entire civilization.”

Donald Trump also stated on his Truth Social network that he would only lift the American blockade on Iranian ports in case of a “deal” with Iran.

“In this same publication, Donald Trump assured that he is “winning a war, by far!”. “They are losing $500 million a day, an unsustainable figure for them, even in the short term,” he added.

A new round of talks planned in Islamabad

While the United States has announced a new round of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, Iran has stated that there is “no clear prospect of fruitful negotiations” from their side.

Tehran has not yet developed a “project for the next round of negotiations, and no decision has been made on this matter,” according to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esma’il Bagha’i, raising doubts about “the seriousness” of the United States in the diplomatic process.

Furthermore, the seizure of an Iranian cargo ship by the United States in the Gulf of Oman, their naval blockade of Iranian ports, and delays in implementing the ceasefire in Lebanon are considered as “clear violations of the ceasefire.”

According to several Iranian media outlets, the lifting of the American naval blockade is a prerequisite for discussions with Washington.
