On the 19th of April 2026 at 3:36 pm, the Omac cinema association, which manages the Normandy cinema in Thury-Harcourt-le-Hom (Calvados), held its general assembly.

With a focus on reviewing activities and looking ahead to 2026, president Sophie Jézéquel, host-programmer Hervé, and the dedicated team of volunteers reiterated their commitment to making Normandy a prominent and inclusive cultural hub for everyone.

In the dimly lit room of Normandy, the atmosphere was filled with both assessments and future plans. For Sophie, the association’s president, this general assembly highlighted the vitality of a structure that has been enriching the heart of the Suisse Normande for over 30 years.

A successful 2025 marked by popular hits

The year 2025 saw a significant increase in attendance at Normandy, fueled by family-friendly titles and highly anticipated blockbusters.

The top three films, which achieved the highest scores, perfectly exemplify the audience’s attraction to grand spectacles: “Zootopia 2” took the top spot with 1,231 entries, confirming the massive success of animated films among Suisse Normande families.

Following closely is “Paddington in Peru” with 494 entries, captivating a wide audience with the new adventures of the beloved bear, while “Mufasa: The Lion King” completes the trio with 468 entries, showcasing the enduring popularity of Disney franchises in theaters.

Hervé noted that these excellent results from successful films provide support for the diverse programming offered at the cinema.

A gradual return to normal attendance

Despite recent years marked by changes in cultural consumption habits, optimism prevails.

“The beginning of 2026 looks promising,” rejoiced Sophie. “This gives us hope for a return to more usual levels of attendance. Our cinema remains an essential social hub for Thury-Harcourt-le-Hom and surrounding municipalities. We are working hard to ensure that every viewer finds a screening that suits them.”

A demanding and diverse programming

The success of Normandy largely relies on its programming, a careful mix of blockbusters, art films, and thematic animations. Hervé, the cinema’s host and programmer, highlighted the key themes of the upcoming season:

“We continue our efforts towards the young audience, especially during school holidays.”

“The ‘M’Hom au cinema’ festival during the autumn break remains a cornerstone of our programming. My role is to discover gems, propose films that make people think, laugh, or travel, while remaining attentive to the expectations of our loyal audience,” added Hervé.

Hervé also took the opportunity to present the films that will be in the spotlight in the coming weeks, emphasizing that Normandy’s transition to digital and the quality of its projection are on par with larger urban complexes.

Projects for 2026

The association has ambitious plans for the upcoming year. Besides maintaining festivals and school initiatives (school and college in the cinema), the team aims to continue modernizing the reception and offering regular events to keep the venue bustling 355 days a year.

The financial report indicates sound management, providing a solid foundation to calmly consider the future and invest in the sustainability of this local cultural asset.
