Memorial Day weekend continues to have a mainly dry look to it, with much warmer temperatures on tap by the second half of this weekend, with a bit more sunshine as well!

The weekend will start under the influence of a weakening area of low pressure and cold front tracking through. A few showers will be possible during the early morning hours Saturday, but by mid-morning cloud cover should begin to decrease area-wide, with a good deal of sunshine expected during the afternoon.

Temperatures Saturday will start out closer to the 50F mark, climbing into the low-mid 70F’s during the afternoon, especially if there is more sunshine than cloud cover. Winds will not be as strong, out of the south between 5 to 10 mph.

Temperatures bottom out near 50F once again Saturday night into Sunday morning, under mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. Sunday is set to be an even warmer day, with highs in the mid-upper 70F’s across Southeastern Minnesota, and a good shot at reaching 80F across Northern Iowa. Southwest winds will be on the light side as well, between 5 to 10 mph.

A weak frontal boundary is now expected to pass through/near our area Sunday afternoon, and while there does not appear to be an overwhelming signal for widespread showers and thunderstorms, the chance will be there from about 5 pm until 10 pm or so. Instability is expected to be on the lower side, so severe weather is unlikely. Something to watch for the sake of outdoor plans later in the day Sunday though!

Monday is looking warmer still, with temperatures expected to top out in the low-mid 80F’s! Dew points will also be on the soupier side, in the low-mid 60F’s. Skies will err on the mostly sunny to partly cloudy side, but with a bit more moisture around, a stray shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out…a classic summertime day!

The bottom line is this is shaping up to be a great Memorial Day weekend overall to get out and enjoy the weather, with mainly dry conditions, and just a few periods of time to keep an extra eye on the radar.
