Every Thursday in summer, Rue d’la Frip transforms Rue Soubeyranne into an urban stage. Thrift stores, concerts, and workshops come together to enliven the center of Alès with a local and participative culture. It all starts on June 4th.

Thrifting, music, art! Every Thursday in summer, Rue Soubeyranne morphs into a new landscape. Between thrift stores, concerts, flea markets, screenings, and workshops, “La Rue d’la Frip” returns for its fourth edition organized by Dorian, owner of the boutique Me Da Igual. A must-attend event for part of the young population of Alès, mixing alternative culture and local neighborhood vibe.

“It’s 56 meters of street where thrifting, art, and music come together,” summarizes the organizer. From June 4th to August 27th, every Thursday evening, the small downtown street will host concerts, stalls, relaxation area, and small food vendors. Three additional dates are also planned: June 21st for the Music Festival, July 14th, and August 15th.

A street transformed into a living space

This year, Dorian wants to further develop the concept of a collective space. “It will be more of a welcoming place for associations and collectives,” he explains. Several local groups and structures will participate in the programming, such as the Lab, a laureate of Alès Audace, Blue Project, Las Quadra, and Kuraxx. “Young members of the Me Da Igual association are getting involved!” The thrift store La Grand-Combe will also be present weekly with clothing and vintage items.

In the midst of the stands, a children’s area will also be created. “Every Thursday, there will be painting workshops. The kids can take home their little canvases,” smiles Dorian. Screenings of old cartoons are also planned on the walls of the street, while a relaxation area will be set up in the heart of the arrangement.

For food, the atmosphere will remain simple: paninis and concerts.

“I feel like people will stay here”

After a tough year for independent small businesses, Dorian believes in a more dynamic summer season. “I have a good feeling this year,” he assures. “I feel like people will stay here this summer.”

For four years, “La Rue d’la Frip” has gradually established itself as a hybrid event, halfway between a neighborhood party, alternative market, and urban mini-festival. It’s also a way to experience the city center of Alès differently, away from the more traditional formats of the summer period.
