The USC Corte recently validated its promotion to National 2. The mountain team clinched the Regional 1 title on the last day of the season with a thrilling victory.

“It was a happy ending for USC Corte, everything was decided in the final minutes of the last match with a 4-1 win against FC Balagne,” said Jacques Colombani, the president of USC Corte. “We didn’t believe in the title anymore, but the unthinkable happened and it brought enormous emotions to the people of Corte.”

The season was a rollercoaster for soccer fans as USC Corte and SVARR engaged in a tooth-and-nail battle in R1. The southerners needed a win in the last match to secure promotion, but things didn’t go as planned with a draw and a victory for the mountain team, sealing their advancement. Just before this, Corte had crushed SVARR, who was leading at the time, 6-0. This was certainly the turning point of the season.

The promotion requires internal rebuilding for USC Corte. President Colombani emphasized the need for restructuring, stating that, “Apart from the financial aspect, National 2 demands a lot of human investment because it’s a whole different world. It’s a significant challenge as we have to rebuild a National 2 squad and organization. It’s a lot of work, and we are starting to tackle it.”

Regarding the budget, President Colombani mentioned that it’s premature to discuss it, but behind the scenes, they are working to assemble a squad focused on local recruitment. “Our priority is to recruit locally with Corsican players. If we don’t find what we’re looking for, we will certainly look elsewhere. We will modestly advance in this championship with humility and limited resources, as we have been the smallest budget in the group in the past.”

To ensure their survival goal, USC Corte’s president hopes to recruit 6 or 7 players. A year after leaving, the team is back in the 6th tier of French football.
