The National Assembly adopted the update to the Military Programming Law on Tuesday by increasing its credits by 36 billion euros.
The military programming law “updated” was adopted. Parliamentarians voted with 440 in favor and 122 against an increase of 36 billion euros in defense credits by 2030. The initial version of the 2024-2030 LPM provided for a budget of 400 billion euros and 13 billion euros in off-budget revenues. Even though these are still surrounded by uncertainty and could vary “by one or two billion,” a connoisseur of the file worries, or even goes so far as to say “half,” said another, the budget for the armed forces will double during Emmanuel Macron’s two terms. For the President of the Republic, who wants final adoption of the text before July 14, it will be a central piece of his record: giving the armed forces the means to defend France against a possible military “shock” in the coming years. The effort is undeniable. But it also has limits.
With a budget of 57.1 billion euros.
