Jacques Legros unleashes a torrent of criticism on the environmental impact of Cannes Film Festival, calling it a superficial spectacle that caters to elite vanity. The issue was sparked by recent figures revealing the use of 750 private jets to transport stars and studio heads to Cannes, consuming two million liters of fossil fuel in just two weeks.
Former Air France pilot Anthony Viaux condemned the extravagant fuel consumption for mere social events, while Legros criticized the disconnection from reality exhibited by the rich and celebrities. He decried the festival as a gathering of self-indulgent individuals posing for photographers in extravagant outfits, solely for appearance’s sake.
Legros lamented the festival’s official selection for neglecting works that resonate with French audiences, asserting a preference for accessible cinema over elitist showcases. Embracing his image as a champion of mainstream information, Legros advocates for a more inclusive vision of film, contrasting it with the glamor of the French Riviera’s private screenings and red carpets.
