IN BRIEF – Cristo Fernández, actor from Ted Lasso, joins El Paso Locomotive FC football club after a two-month trial. Known for his role as Danny Rojas, he fulfills his dream of becoming a professional player despite thinking his career was impossible due to an injury. The upcoming season 4 of Ted Lasso arriving this summer on AppleTV will focus on women’s football.

“Football is life,” but for real. While Ted Lasso fans eagerly await the arrival of season 4 on Apple TV this summer, one of the show’s stars has crossed over to the other side. Cristo Fernández has indeed signed with the professional football club El Paso Locomotive FC in the United States.

This news comes after a two-month trial of the actor with the players. It was the Texan club that announced the actor’s arrival on social media on Tuesday, May 12. “The rumors were true, welcome to El Paso Cristo Fernández,” it stated.

Cristo Fernández did not discover his passion for football through his role on Ted Lasso, but it was precisely this role that allowed him to obtain the role of Danny Rojas. The Mexican actor had played football at a high level until the age of 15, as noted by NBC. An injury prematurely ended his football career, leading him to pursue acting.

In a video shared on his social media, Cristo Fernández reflects on “his wild dreams and unwavering faith.” He even quotes the series that made him famous worldwide by mentioning a line from the character played by Jason Sudeikis: “When you believe in your dreams, life finds a way to make them come true.”

The 35-year-old actor and athlete thus joins the El Paso Locomotive FC club, which competes in the USL Championship, one of the lower levels of the North American professional league. He could soon compete against teams like San Antonio FC, Detroit City Football Club, or Phoenix Rising FC.

In Bill Lawrence’s series about the English football universe, Danny Rojas is one of the most talented players on the team coached by Ted Lasso. Very enthusiastic, he regularly shouts on the field, “Football is life,” a phrase imagined by the actor himself during his audition for the role as he revealed in an interview.

The actor will not be featured in the upcoming season 4 of Ted Lasso, scheduled for August 5, 2026. In this season, Apple TV subscribers will see Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard). This season, the series will be focused on women’s football.
