A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday by the Genesee County court in the United States. According to The Guardian, he was found guilty of killing his best man on his wedding day in August 2024. He deliberately hit him with his SUV following a dispute, the nature of which is still unknown.
On that day, the young couple celebrated their union in a pizzeria before continuing the party at a house. It was there that the argument broke out. The victim, a 29-year-old man, then left the premises. He was in front of the house when he was hit by his best friend’s SUV. Seriously injured, he was pronounced dead shortly after at the hospital.
“I will be eternally sorry”
The couple only went to the police the next day. “The only thing I can do for the rest of my life is to express my apologies and regrets… I will be eternally sorry,” said the defendant in court. He also stated that killing his best man “was not intentional” and that he took “full responsibility” for his actions.
According to several witnesses, the husband had been drinking alcohol all day. He was found guilty of second-degree murder, driving with a suspended license causing death, and hit-and-run at the scene of an accident for which he is responsible, causing death. His 23-year-old wife will be tried on May 26 for complicity. She pleaded not guilty in April.
