War in the Middle East: Jean

Invited on the BFMTV-RMC set this Wednesday, Jean-Paul Paloméros, former Chief of Staff of the Air Force, declared that “it is likely that the war will restart” in the Middle East. A ceasefire has been in place for a month by Donald Trump, but assaults are still ongoing.

“We must not be passive. Being passive is terrible. We must be proactive, in one way or another. Diplomatically, militarily… I believe we must not let Iran breathe,” said Jean-Paul Paloméros.

“That’s why I am not at all convinced by the ceasefire, as it was declared unilaterally by the Americans,” he said.

A “change in attitude”

The former Chief of Staff also revisited the best approach to take towards Iran. “We must do everything to bring Iran to a sort of understanding and change in attitude,” said Jean-Paul Paloméros.

And he added, “For me, that involves a regime change and probably war.”

He then assures that a “clear alternative” is now emerging: “either we let Iran develop and continue to kill its own people and dominate the region, or we say it’s over.”

No compromise

Several weeks after the announcement of a ceasefire by the United States, the shadow of a new escalation in the war hangs over the Middle East.

While France and the United Kingdom are preparing for an offensive mission to ensure traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the Americans have stated that they are ready to take up arms in case of a ceasefire breakdown by launching a new mission called “Iron Hammer.”

Iran has also ruled out any compromise after the rejection of its proposal by Donald Trump. “Any other approach would be fruitless,” declared the chief negotiator of the Islamic Republic.
