Montpellier, Espace Saint-Ravy hosts the exhibition “En commun, l’inconnu” until May 24, organized by the Maison de la Gravure Méditerranée. Twenty-six artists showcase prints and artist books through monumental collective works, handmade prints, and socially-engaged creations.

The Maison de la Gravure Méditerranée, not to be confused with the Metro Goldwyn Mayer, occupies the Espace Saint-Ravy for another ten days. Twenty-six artists present “En commun, l’inconnu”, a display celebrating prints and artist books. In a digital-dominated world, the Maison de la Gravure Méditerranée emphasizes traditional techniques. From engraving the plates to handmade printing, the creators reaffirm the value of craftsmanship, forming an ideal link between the National Print Day and the Book Fair.

    A Mediterranean in fragments

Undoubtedly, the exhibition is collective with two monumental works. On one hand, a vast fresco composed of multiple prints juxtaposed forms a fragmented and poetic map of the Mediterranean. The blue and ochre unify a wide variety of styles.

Monochrome put to the test of textures

In the other major work, monochrome dominates, with each print exploring different textures: hypnotic spirals, captivating looks, mountain landscapes, dark forests, and steep cliffs. The diversity is captivating, along with the power of isolated pieces like the work “Accusation.” This print features a monumental, faceless feminine silhouette, with a dress teeming with flowers and butterflies. The capitalized title at the bottom of the image challenges and adds a political depth to the beauty of the design.

Until Sunday, May 24, from Tuesday to Sunday (10 am-1 pm and 2 pm-6 pm). Espace Saint-Ravy, Montpellier. Free entry.
