- Washington examines Iranian proposal
A new Iranian proposal is “under review,” according to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, following reports that Tehran has made a new offer through Pakistani mediators.
The offer is “better than we thought” but “we must ensure that any agreement reached permanently prevents them from having nuclear weapons at any time,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
- Iran seeks “credible guarantees” of security
Security and stability in the Gulf require “credible guarantees” for Iran against any new American-Israeli attack, said the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations.
“Lasting stability and security in the Gulf and the region at large can only be ensured by a lasting and permanent cessation of aggression against Iran, accompanied by credible guarantees of non-repetition and full respect for Iran’s legitimate sovereign rights and interests,” stated Amir Saeid Iravani at a Security Council session.
- Lebanon: Israeli strikes kill four in the south
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes in the country’s south killed four people, including a woman, and injured 51, including three children, despite the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
At least 40 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli strikes since the fragile truce began on April 17.
- French Foreign Minister calls for “major concessions” from Iran
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Iran must make “major concessions” in peace talks to end the Middle East war.
“There will be no lasting solution to this crisis without the Iranian regime making major concessions and radically changing its stance,” he stated at a UN Security Council meeting.
- Israeli Defense Minister accuses Hezbollah of “playing with fire”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Hezbollah would lead Lebanon to disaster, following the Hezbollah leader’s opposition to direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
“Naim Qassem is playing with fire, and this fire will burn Hezbollah and all of Lebanon,” stated Israel Katz to UN envoy to Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
- UN maritime agency strongly opposes passage rights in Ormuz
The head of the UN maritime agency reiterated that there is “no legal basis” for a passage right in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran reportedly wants to establish.
“There is no legal basis for introducing any fees, duties, or charges on straits used for international navigation,” said Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez.
