Cambodian media highlights Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy

In an article published on Wednesday, February 4, the English-language daily, Khmer Times, underscored Hanoi’s constant focus on strengthening and deepening relations with Cambodia, seen as a long-term strategic priority.
Titled “Consistency of Vietnam’s Policy towards Cambodia,” the article, written by Uch Leang, a researcher and interim director of the Department of Asian, African, and Middle Eastern Studies at the Institute of International Relations of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, also president of the Association of Cambodian alumni who studied in Vietnam.
The author believes Vietnam’s choice of Cambodia as one of the destinations for the first state visits after the CPV’s National Congress demonstrates a strong political message, showcasing Vietnam’s priority on relations with neighboring countries, especially Cambodia and Laos.
According to Khmer Times, Vietnam’s foreign policy is based on consistent principles of independence, autonomy, peace, cooperation, and development, as well as diversification and multilateralization of international relations. The newspaper highlights that Vietnam-Cambodia relations are firmly institutionalized in the strategic directions of the Vietnamese Party and State.
The Cambodian newspaper sees Vietnam’s approach as practical cooperation focusing on the concrete interests of the two countries’ peoples, conferring historical and prospective value to the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship. This cooperation spans various fields, from economy, trade, and investment to defense, security, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
In a regional and international context of complex developments, Khmer Times emphasizes Vietnam’s continued focus on enhancing bilateral relations while promoting the Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos solidarity as a strategic factor for stability and sustainable development in Southeast Asia.
The newspaper concludes that Vietnam’s consistent policy towards Cambodia reflects a country that cherishes peace, values stability and common development, and is committed to building a durable and mutually beneficial partnership in service of regional and global peace and prosperity.
